About

ArtsCog is an independent psychology research lab based in the UK. It aims to explore relationships between arts-engagement, cognition and culture using rigorous, open and transparent research practices.

In particular, ArtsCog uses a range of methods to study the cognitive architecture of the multidimensional empathy skillset and arts-engagement (narratives, art practices and pieces), and to investigate their relationship, with an emphasis on the imaginative and empathic experiences that can feature in autism.

People's connections to objects and artefacts are individually meaningful, and have broader implications for sustainability.

ArtsCog was established by Rose Turner, PhD. Rose is a full member of the National Coalition of Independent Scholars, a chartered research psychologist and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society, and fellow of Advance HE. She joined academia following a decade of working in the arts as an actor, writer, and applied arts practitioner across a range of health, social care, education and training contexts (e.g., HERE).
